The first item on the agenda

Health & Safety (H&S) is always the first agenda item for Carillion's Board of Directors, who receive monthly reports. Our top priority is keeping our employees and the people who work for us safe and healthy.

Systems and certification

Our businesses have formal H&S management systems. Our UK and Middle East & North Africa regions are officially certified to the BS OHSAS 18001 standard.

Carillion's systems include clear policies and frameworks for communication and awareness-raising, and for on-going training. We rigorously assess contracts for H&S risks at each stage: design, delivery and use.

Safety data

In 2011, our Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) was 0.07 reportable accidents per 100,000 employee hours worked. The previous year's figure was 0.10. On average, 4 out of 5 projects achieved zero reportable accidents during 2011.
