CPM – formerly known as Planed Maintenance Engineering (PME) was acquired by Carillion during 2005 and was one of the largest privately owned M&E engineering maintenance businesses in the UK, boasting over 40 years’ experience in the provision of specialist support in the operation, maintenance and repair of building services.

Carillion – The Present

During the last 80 years, one of Carillion’s strengths has been its ability to recognise the need to adapt its products, services and approach to customers’. The culture necessary to achieve these changes is deeply embedded within the organisation and will assist the Group in responding to the future challenges in the ever-changing market.

Our integrated skills and capabilities are amongst the very best in the UK; we also have a strong and growing presence in international markets. The combined acquisitions has led to a Group with a turnover of approx £5.1 billion and around 50,000 employees.

Our History

Carillion was created from the stock split of Tarmac plc in 1999, when the aggregates division of the combined group was separated from the business services and construction units. This allowed the two new entities, Tarmac and Carillion, to focus on their core areas of expertise and expand their services in these areas.

The facilities management part of the Carillion business originally called Tarmac Services, went on to become Carillion Services following the de-merger, continuing to deliver facilities management services to customers throughout the UK and beyond.

23rd February 2006 marked the completion of the regulatory process allowing the formal creation of an enlarged group in which Mowlem became part of Carillion plc. The acquisition of Mowlem plc brought with it complementary skills and market strengths particularly in support services with Mowlem Asset Services and Mowlem Technical Services (engineering services).
