A Carillion apprenticeship is a great way to start a career in the construction industry and provides the opportunity to choose from a number of trades including bricklaying, carpentry & joinery, painting & decorating,general construction operations,plastering, and interior systems (dry lining).

Types of construction apprenticeships

Type:            

Bricklaying
(Apprenticeship Level 2 / Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3)

Role:  






 

Construct masonry structures in brick and block including cavity wall structures, block work structures and solid wall structures (retaining walls, garden walls). Form door and window openings and form joint finishes. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls. At Advanced level you will learn how to construct complex masonry structures such as arches, chimneys, fireplaces, decorative features and curved walling.  

Outcome:   

You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diploma (competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in Maths and English. At Advanced level you will work towards the level 3 NVQ Diploma and the Level 3 Construction Diploma.

Type:           

Carpentry and Joinery
(Apprenticeship Level 2 / Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3)

Role:    



                  

Install first fixing components including: door/window frames and linings, floor joist coverings, partitions, plasterboard and staircases. Install second fixing components including: doors, mouldings, ironmongery, wall/floor units and cladding. Erecting structural carcassing components including: roofs, floor joists, flat roof and floor coverings. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls. At Advanced level you will learn how to install complex structural carcassing such as inclined roofs, hips and valleys, roof verge and eaves finishes and dormers.

You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diplo(competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in maths and English. At Advanced level you will work towards the level 3 NVQ Diploma and the Level 3 Construction Diploma.

Type: 

Painting and Decorating
(Apprenticeship Level 2 / Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3)

Role:             Prepare a variety of surfaces to receive paint applications, apply various paint types to different surfaces using brush and rollers, apply standard papers to walls and ceilings, and apply specialist decorative finishes such as stencilling and textured effects.In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls.At Advanced level you will learn how to install coving and other texture products, produce graining and marbling patterns, produce comb textured finishes and other complex finishes such as metal leaf. 
Outcome:  You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diploma (competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in maths and English. At Advanced level you will work towards the level 3 NVQ Diploma and the Level 3 Construction Diploma.
Type: 

General Construction Operations (Apprenticeship Level 2 only)

Role:            

Install work area protection and safety equipment, lay domestic drainage including preparation and setting out levels and gradients, carry out testing on newly laid drainage systems, install inspection chambers, connect to existing drainage systems, place and finish concrete, position and secure concrete reinforcement products, construct and secure basic formwork. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls.    

Outcome: 

You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diploma (competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in maths and English. At Advanced level you will work towards the level 3 NVQ Diploma and the Level 3 Construction Diploma. 

Type:           

Plastering (Apprenticeship Level 2 / Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3)

Role:          






        

Fix dry lining and plasterboard products to interior surfaces, prepare surfaces to receive plaster applications, apply plaster products to internal surfaces, apply one and two coat work to solid walls, produce plaster-based components such as cornice, form sand and cement screeds. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls. At Advanced level you will install mechanically fixed plasterboard, apply external rendering, install complex plaster finishes to complex surfaces, and install direct bond dry lining systems.

Outcome: 
          

You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diploma (competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in maths and English. At Advanced level you will work towards the level 3 NVQ Diploma and the Level 3 Construction Diploma.

Type:            Interior Systems (Apprenticeship Level 2 only)
Role:       

Install dry lining partition systems, finish dry lining joints, install dry lining and encasements, and apply finishing plasters to plasterboard surfaces. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls.

Outcome:  You will work towards a number of qualifications including Level 2 NVQ Diploma (competency qualification), Level 2 Construction Diploma (training qualification), and functional skills qualifications in maths and English.
