A249
Carillion is helping to ease congestion and open up access to the Isle of Sheppey in Kent by upgrading an essential commuter route.
We’re working on a PFI project to upgrade, operate and maintain a 17km section of the A249 trunk road in Kent, which forms the only traffic link between the mainland and the Isle of Sheppey. It includes the design and construction of 5km of dual carriageway between the existing Iwade Bypass and the Queenborough Junction, incorporating a new high level bridge crossing of the River Swale.
Carefully designed to ensure that is satisfies a variety of important environmental constraints, the upgraded route and new bridge will provide major benefits to commuters in North Kent by reducing congestion and improving traffic flows to and from the mainland. The work will also support future economic and social developments on Sheppey.
