A55

Carillion is helping to make journeys easier in North Wales through its work on the A55 DBFO road project.

We’re responsible for the upgrade of the existing A55 trunk road across Anglesey in North Wales. The route serves the port of Holyhead, with its links to Ireland, and is part of the Trans European Network.

The PFI project includes upgrade of the road to dual two-lane standard, the rebuilding of a number of structures and taking over two historic bridges over the Menai Straight. Much of the route spans open countryside, so considerable attention has been given to the design of the upgrading works to ensure that it blends in with the environment.

As well as the upgrading work, we are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the road for the next 30 years, collecting revenues through a shadow tolling mechanism.
