Carillion confirmed as SSE national delivery partner
Loft insulation is an easy way to reduce energy bills

21st June 2013
Under the agreement, homes in or at risk of fuel poverty will be offered a range of free heating and insulation measures through the Affordable Warmth element of the new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) programme.

The partnership will run to June 2015 and is estimated to be worth up to £17.5 million.

came into force in January this year and is being funded by the major energy suppliers to work alongside the Government's Green Deal energy efficiency drive to help households save money on energy bills and cut carbon.

Within ECO the Affordable Warmth obligation commits around £350 million per annum specifically for low income households.

Carillion will carry our energy assessments and technical surveys and manage up to 8,000 installations each year, including heating systems, loft and cavity wall insulation.

"Carillion was able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering energy efficiency programmes at scale and with the highest level of customer service"

- Keith Armstrong, SSE
Nigel Taylor, Chief Operating Officer for Carillion Services, said: "Green Deal is gaining momentum, but it must be inclusive and open to all which is why ECO and the Affordable Warmth funding from companies like SSE is so important.

Selecting us as a national delivery partner confirms our position as a leading provider of ECO and Green Deal solutions and is a platform we will build on to secure more work and to create new jobs in this rapidly developing sector. Given the customer base it is also an opportunity to help transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable in society by making their homes warmer and more affordable to heat."

Keith Armstrong from SSE added:  "Efficient heating and insulation is the key to tackling fuel poverty, which is why we take our obligations under ECO extremely seriously. Carillion was able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering energy efficiency programmes at scale and with the highest level of customer service, and was a natural partner of choice."

As well as working with SSE, Carillion is also delivering the Birmingham Energy Savers scheme (BES) on behalf of Birmingham City Council. This is the first example of a local authority-delivered Green Deal programme and is set to improve the energy efficiency of 60,000 households, together with schools and other non domestic council properties over the next eight years.
