Carillion and St Andrews Academy raise money for charity
7 October 2005 – The St Andrews Site Team recently donated two nano iPods to St Andrews Academy. The iPods were raffled amongst the school pupils in order to raise money for two of the schools chosen charities.
Angus MacInnes, Project Director and Jamie Crumlish, Technical Services Manager, made the presentation to the two lucky pupils on Friday the 7th of October 2005.
The raffle raised approximately £600, which has been split between two charities. The first charity being St Peters School in Malawi, St Andrews Academy has previously donated significant sums of money to aid the community in Malawi to undertake the construction of the new school. This donation will help continue that effort. The second charity is Street Child Africa; Street Child Africa was formed in the UK to support African Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and Charities working with and for street children in Africa.
Project Director Angus MacInnes said "Working so close to the local community in the construction of the new schools for Renfrewshire provide our construction teams with the opportunity to honour Carillons commitments to the 1% club. We continue to contribute over 1% of our profits to environmental and community initiatives, allowing us to be part of the Business in the Community Per Cent Club. Our contributions include in kind contribution, of staff time and experience or donations of materials, and direct monetary investment to individual community groups or through coordinated charities and organisations."
