The New ND Primary School is located on the Brownfield site situated to the south of the Tannahill Centre, bordered by Falcon Crescent, Crawford Drive and Blackstoun Road. The existing schools will stay fully operational during the construction period. Although the existing Ferguslie sports pitch will be modified nearer the end of this project.
The site presents a number of challenges in the form of site levels, presence of rock strata at a high level and dealing with diversions of the existing infrastructure.
Site Works
The basic methodology will be to install, all below ground drainage and to create permanent roads and car parking, which will reduce risk of mud to surrounding roads. These works will also include a number of statutory service diversions namely surface water, sewer, HV cable diversion and mains water.
The single storey structure will be constructed using a traditional concrete foundations and slab design. The superstructure will be formed by the use of pre-cast concrete panel system installed with the use of mobile craneage. The large span structures forming the dining hall and gymnasium will be constructed using a steel frame and traditional blockwork infills.
Following completion of the pre-cast panelling the steel roof trusses will be erected at which time the roofing contractor will install the main roof sheeting system.
Scaffolding will be erected to facades to permit installation of windows and brick/block outer skin thereby creating a generally weather tight environment for internal trades, the scaffold will generally be sheeted to mitigate possible dust and noise from construction activities on the scaffold.
Internal activities will commence with initial electrical and mechanical fit out followed by formation of any internal partitions and plasterboard works. The internal trades will then progress through to completion in line with our construction programme. On completion of the testing and commissioning activities the existing schools will be decanted into the new school.

Current Site Activities
The timber site hoarding has been erected together with the setup of initial accommodation units. Heavy plant has now been brought onto site to allow installation of drainage and construction of foundations, these works are envisaged to complete around June 2006, with the next notable activity being the erection of the pre-cast concrete inner walls and steel frame which will commence in June 2006.
During the course of the construction activities we will issue regular newsletters together with updating this website to keep the local community fully informed of our progress and planned activities.
