Manchester Magistrates Court
Carillion is responsible for the design, construction, financing and operation of a new Magistrates’ Court in Manchester city centre. Manchester City Council appointed Carillion Building as main contractor and Carillion’s consultancy business, TPS, as structural engineer on the £30m PFI project. The task was to update old court buildings that lacked modern facilities and were no longer suitable for the needs of the Manchester Magistrates' Courts Committee. | |

The project involved the construction of 18 courts, a coroners’ court and a four-storey magistrates’ courthouse located above retail space and a basement car park. It also includes support facilities for 180 staff, with proper access for disabled people. The court functions are separated from courthouse administrative functions by a central glazed atrium and separate waiting rooms are now provided for victims of crime and defendants. |
