Harrow SEN
Classrooms at the new schools are designed to comfortably hold eight pupils and four teachers. Special requirements included hydrotherapy pools, production kitchens and extensive landscaping, including the use of a water feature.
The schools attract lots of natural light and are very spacious, with natural ventilation and underfloor heating. Each room was built with a high acoustic rating to ensure low levels of sound transmission and echoes. Carillion is enabling communities by providing enhanced facilities at two special needs schools and refurbishing an existing mainstream school in Harrow, North London.
Acting as design and construction contractor on the £13.6m PFI project, we carried out wide consultation over the design of the new facilities with interested bodies such as the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) and other special schools around the country.
