Through our
activities we aim to improve the quality of life for all
We can enhance the communities
in which we operate and improve the quality of life for all.
We do this by proactively considering how our actions impact
on the community, involving ourselves in positive community
activities and improving employee working conditions.
We recognise that, through our
operations, we have the potential to cause disruption within
local neighbourhoods, whether in the United Kingdom or different
parts of the world. Therefore open consultation, good communication
with the local community and recognition of different cultures
and their needs is essential to ensure an overall positive
impact.
The New
Accommodation Project in Cheltenham is an example
of our interactions with local communities. Our activities
range from regular consultation with local residents, to ensure
that concerns are raised and needs met, to paying for cars
and windows to be cleaned.
Our involvement in the community
extends beyond managing the impact of our operations. Many
activities are linked to improving community involvement and
community facilities. Through these actions we aim to foster
ongoing relations and improve the quality of life for the
community. For example, we responded to a local radio request
to donate materials and staff time to redevelop a nursery
playground in Bradford and we held a workshop for 30 pupils
of the Great Barr Comprehensive school in Birmingham to teach
Numeracy in the Workplace.
Information on our financial
contribution to community initiatives is outlined in case
studies below, our Annual
Report and Accounts and the Economic Growth
and Prosperity, Economic
Impact.
An area where we can potentially
have the greatest influence on quality of life is our employees.
As well as providing a safe place of work we are concerned
about the general conditions afforded to staff. Please refer
to the People
section of the report.
