Carillion Rail is named as the winner in the large contractor category of the annual Railtrack Environment Awards.
March
In the Quality in Construction Awards, organised by Construction News:
- Schal won the Major Project of the Year title for the £70 million BP Sunbury Redevelopment Phase 1 project. The project involved the development of nearly 17,000 square metres of office space in three buildings in addition to a technology building and other works.
- Carillion Building's HMP Rye Hill project took second place for Medium Project of the Year. The project also involved Carillion Private Finance, TPS Consult and Crown House Engineering. The judges commented, "A very competent on-the-ball job."
- In the Environmental Achievement category, Carillion received a Highly Commended award.
- Expanded Piling received praise in being a finalist in the Research and Development (materials) Award for the development of continuous flight auger.
April
- Carillion Building named as Major Contractor of the Year in the Building Magazine Awards 2002.
- The judges said of Carillion Building - "An outstanding attitude to client satisfaction, an innovative approach and an ethical business policy were the key for Carillion Building, clinching it first place.”
May
- Carillion’s in-house newspaper Spectrum receives an Award of Excellence in the National Communicators in Business awards - Europe's biggest corporate communications competition.
- Carillion Rail wins a prestigious British Safety Council award, for which only companies with below-average accident rates are eligible.
- The GCHQ project also scoops a five-star award from the British Safety Council.
- In the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, Carillion Rail wins a Gold Award.
- There’s further RoSPA success for Crown House Engineering, which receives the coveted President’s Award – given once 10 consecutive golds have been achieved. RoSPA gold awards were also given to Carillion Building North West & Scotland, Buildings Midlands & North East, Building Special Projects and Carillion Rail.
- Carillion took a clutch of awards in the prestigious Public Private Finance Awards for 2002, organised by PFI Report Magazine. GCHQ was named PPF Project of the Year. In a hat-trick of awards it also won the design and major accommodation categories.
- Best Transport Project (above £20 million) was awarded to Nottingham Express Transit.
- The Hackney Technology and Learning Centre was named Best Accommodation Project below £20 million.
September
- Carillion Rail, for the second year running, was named the best maintenance operator in the UK, in the industry’s prestigious National Rail Awards. The company was the best performer in Railtrack’s Key Performance Indicator (KPI) league. KPIs measure performance across a wide range of maintenance areas including signalling equipment, temporary speed restrictions, track and delays to services.
November
- Carillion’s GCHQ project receives a Sword of Honour Award from the British Safety Council – the highest and most prestigious of the BSC’s awards.
