Protection of the Environment
Our businesses interact with the environment in a range of ways, from simple activities such as lighting our offices through to the construction of major new roads. We have a major opportunity to introduce policies and processes that make our buildings and infrastructures more sustainable.
We have been managing our environmental performance since 1994 and can report on several successes in 2002;
- No prosecutions relating to environmental issues, including no section 60 notices.
- The average score in our 2002 targets was 93% with 57% being fully achieved and the remainder achieving 80% or above.
- Our transport and head office energy carbon dioxide emissions continued to reduce.
- Our head office water consumption reduced.
- 2,327 staff received formal training courses.
The following four sections provide information on our performance in 2002 and provide links to relevant case records, which highlight our positive impacts on the areas we consider to be our most significant environmental impacts.
