Dr Andrew Horsley, Carillion Building Special Projects
Andrew is a Sustainability Manager within Carillion Building Special Projects. Andrew has been interested in sustainability issues for some time and has just completed his doctorate at the University of Surrey.
The title of Andrew’s thesis is:
Better By Design: Integrating Energy Performance Assessment into Building Design.
As a Sustainability Manager Andrew is responsible for;
- Facilitating and conducting economic and environmental life cycle option appraisals during the construction design process, with the key focus being on energy efficiency and energy supply strategies
- Liaison with PFI clients on energy efficient design and sustainable construction
- Capturing best practice and incorporating the findings in business processes/strategy
- Developing and delivering training to inform and enthuse staff about the concept of sustainability and sustainable design
- Developing project specific sustainability action plans
- Formulating the written and oral insight into Carillion’s design solutions from a sustainability/environmental perspective during the bid process for clients and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated the new tool and procedure to key stakeholders before integration into corporate management procedures and presented these benefits to both internal parties and clients, and at major industrial and academic conferences
Outside of work Andrew is a keen mountain biker and enjoys organising and undertaking independent travel. He is a founder member of an investment club dealing in UK stocks/shares and is interested in classic cars and car restoration, |
