Gary Connolly Dip. RSA, Crown House Engineering

Gary is the National Manufacturing Director for Crown House Engineering and focuses on communicating the benefits of off site manufacture to clients throughout the UK. This includes many sustainability benefits including, reduced use of raw materials, reduced waste generation, reduced nuisance at site level and of course the use of manufacturing techniques allows for a more controlled and efficient environment.

Gary has been interested in sustainability for several years and during his time as the Manager of the Crown House Engineering (CHE) Manufacturing Centre he helped the company to become the first business within its sector to gain certification to ISO 14001.

Gary has always had a strong link with the local communities in which he worked. At the Manufacturing Centre he provided work placements for local young people, as well as, opening the factory to the local schools, as part of the national construction week, to try to enthuse young people about the construction industry.

The Manufacturing Centre provides prefabricated materials to Carillion projects throughout the country and Gary recognises that one of the most significant impacts are the emissions associated with the transport of the prefabricated materials. Under Gary's direction the centre previously undertook an assessment of the transport company and vehicles used, as well as the planting of trees in local schools and nurseries to begin to off set the carbon dioxide generated by the transport activities of the plant.

As the National Manufacturing Director Gary introduced Design for Manufacturing and Assembly to British Airports Authority (BAA). In doing so he has demonstrated that off site manufacture can help Carillion clients to meet their company sustainability targets.
