Welcome to Carillion’s 2003 Sustainability Report

Our 4th annual report on our sustainability programme, this report provides information on our environmental, social and economic performance during 2003 and covers all our operating businesses, both within the UK and overseas.

Highlights

Carillion are winners of the BITC Impact on Society Award and have become the BITC Company of the Year 2003
In the BITC Corporate Responsibility Index we achieved a score of 91%, making us the leading company in the construction and materials sector
Carillion Natural Habitats Fund continues to work in partnership with The Wildlife Trusts and has now supported 14 projects across the UK since 2001

We continue to contribute over 1% of our profits to environmental and community initiatives, allowing us to be part of the Business in the Community Per Cent Club

The energy consumption (kwh/m2) in Head Office buildings has been reduced by 19% with a 32% reduction in carbon emissions
543 employees have been presented with Values Awards for their achievements in 2003

Reporting

This report follows current best practice, including the ACCA Environmental, Social and Sustainability Reporting on the World Wide Web Guidance and the Turnbull Report. These guidance documents have assisted us in clearly demonstrating the sustainability improvements that have occurred within our businesses and their related projects during 2003.
