Water Pollution

Case Records

We aim to protect water resources from pollution by ensuring that our business activities do not cause detrimental impacts. We recognise that our businesses may cause water pollution through spillage of toxic materials, waste or silt and we have training tools for all our employees to raise awareness of these issues.

Environment Agency

In 2003 there were no environmental prosecutions due to water pollution. We did however work closely with the Environment Agency following a pollution incident in the River Spen, Dewsbury. Our detailed research of the incident, which had originally been incorrectly attributed to one of our sites, allowed the Environment Agency to identify the true and continued pollution problem.

“The Agency is continuing to investigate this matter and would like to thank Carillion for your cooperation and detailed submission at interview. A lot of the information provided by yourselves has been invaluable in the progress to preventing an incident of this nature taking place again”

- Mark West, Environment Agency
