Policies

We recognise the need to enhance the quality of life for all those that we impact. This will be crucial to Carillion’s survival in the long term. To support this we have implemented the following policies:

Environmental Policy
Contaminated Land Policy
Risk Assessment Policy
Human Rights Policy
Equal Opportunities Policy
Whistle Blowing Policy
Charities Policy

Organisational Structure and Responsibilities

We recognise Carillion needs to more fully understand its sustainability impacts to ensure that we are alert to potential risks and are able to make the most of future business opportunities.

The diagram represents our organisational structure in managing our sustainability impacts.

Carillion’s sustainability programme is supported from the top. Sir Neville Simms chairs the Board's Sustainability Committee with membership of senior executives from across the Group plus the input of two external advisors. The Committee sets the strategy for Carillion’s sustainability activities and monitors target performance. Our external advisors are Chris Baines and David Cadman, both are acknowledged environmental experts in the built environment sector. Chris Baines outlines his views regarding Carillion, sustainable development and the future in a separate section.

We are dependent on local communities and natural resources

Carillion operates within the parameters of the earth’s resources and the communities that live in the world. The people Carillion employs and interacts with - primarily our clients, suppliers and employees - are all part of local communities. Carillion utilises peoples’ skills to transform material resources on a project into infrastructure or the provision of services. This process develops peoples’ skills and produces waste (some of which can be re-used or recycled).

In recognition of the vital role of suppliers to our activities and the key issue of health and safety, particularly for construction activities, Carillion has a separate Purchasing Executive and a Health and Safety Committee.

Carillion is also involved in the business community, both locally and nationally, through its membership of business associations and external representation.
