Customer satisfaction levels

Data collected at Business Group level, examples include:
At two of our building projects we undertook customer satisfaction surveys from start to the end of the projects. The Blenheim Court Project achieved 72% satisfaction rate and the NAFW Office Accommodation project achieved 93% customer satisfaction levels.

Customer retention

This is generally 100% across the business, also note that some customers do not give us work every year! 80% of our Building business is with 20 clients. Our Road and Rail business is generally with either network Rail, Highways Agency or longer-term maintenance contracts with local authorities.

Workforce profile

In 2005 we employed 20,000 people but we now employ over 46,000 people following the acquisition of Mowlem in February 2006.

1. There was no Health and Safety convictions in 2005.

2. Health and Safety Enforcements in 2005:
2.1 Prohibition notice served on Carillion Building on 09 June 2005 issued by HSE on a contractor for failure to replace edge protection and for the method statement for the glazing operation not adequately describing the need for edge protection to be replaced after the glaziers finished each fitting operation. No actual accident or injury occurred.

2.2 Prohibition notice served on Carillion Building on 01 July 2005 issued by HSE for unsafe system of work to prevent falls of persons and materials from height. No actual accident or injury occurred.

2.3 Prohibition notice served on Carillion Building on 05 December 2005 issued by HSE after an accident had occurred involving a sub-contractor employee who fell through an inadequately protected roof opening suffering serious injuries following a fall from height.

1. Carillion Building for Renfrewshire Schools PPP was awarded the Best Public Safety Initiative at the Health and Safety awards.

2. Carillion Building was awarded the RoSPA Gold award for Health and Safety performance in 2004.

3. Carillion Services was awarded the British Safety Council ‘International Safety award’ 2005.

4. Carillion Services and Telewest Service Channel was awarded the British Safety Council ‘International Safety award’ 2005.

5. Carillion Health for Great Swindon Hospital achieved the British Safety Council ‘Sword of Honour’ 2005.

6. Carillion Health for Great Swindon Hospital was awarded the British Safety Council 5 Star award for Health and Safety Management System.

2. Carillion Business Services was a finalist in the Sustainability category for the Building awards.

3. TPS Consult for the Twin Rivers Diversion Project achieved an ‘Excellence’ CEEQUAL award for its work on diverting two rivers at Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport.

Since end of 2004 we have been buying 100% CCL exempt Green Energy for our offices. All this comes from renewable sources and is therefore exempt of CCL charges.

Kg CO2 emissions from company car fleet.

Due to the acquisition of PME, which greatly increased the size of our car fleet, CO2 has grown from 8,959 Kg in 2004 to 12,798 Kg in 2005.
However, CO2 Per unit has reduced from 4,291 Kg in 2004 to 4,121, Kg in 2005.

- Enhancement of rare species at Longfield Chalk Bank – Darent Valley Hospital
- Installation of 30 dormice tubes within an area of Old Sulehay Nature Reserve - a potential habitat for dormice.

Habitats restored:
- Re-housing of water voles during the construction of the A249
- Monitoring and maintaining the sustainability of the kestrel population on the M40 area.
