We are proud of our record on sustainable development and this website contains many examples and best practice from across the group, for example:
- We are extremely pleased to report that the results were published on Sunday and we have achieved 4th place in the category of bigger companies with high environmental impact and 8th place overall. This achievement is a result of the hard work and involvement of Carillion people in putting sustainable systems into practices so thank you for making us one of the UK’s Best Green Companies.
- We are pleased to announce that Carillion retained their Platinum rank in the 2009 Business in the Community (BiTC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index. The index ranks companies’ sustainability performance, and our score of 96.5%, was higher than any other company in the support services sector.
- Carillion is a member of the FTSE4Good Index, which comprises of companies meeting recognised sustainability standards.
- To date, 100% of our UK and Middle East operations have accredited environmental management systems.
- We continued to make progress towards Target Zero in 2009; the Group’s Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) was 0.13 reportable accidents per 100,000 people hours worked (2008 AFR: 0.14), with four out of five operational sites, worldwide, achieving ‘Target Zero’.
- We conduct regular employee surveys and our latest scores compare favourably with those of other top UK companies.
- In 2009, we generated 24.51 tCO2e per million turnover, a reduction of 24% compared to our baseline for 2006 (32.31 tCO2e).
