The Carillion Building Project Team at Temple Back in Bristol have used their own initiative in the implementation of innovative ideas to reduce waste and save energy on site. The project is within the city centre environment of Bristol and comprised construction of a multi storey ‘green’ office development together with an adjacent residential apartment building. Our Clients for the two buildings are UK & European Developments and Westmark Developments respectively, and the target of the Whole Project Team is to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of ‘Excellent’. The BREEAM process set the project team thinking of ways in which they could reduce waste and save energy during the construction process, and one area of focus was the provision of temporary electrics for the site operations. The focus was on the lighting required to provide safe access within and around the site. | |
SOLAR LIGHTING The office walkway gantry has been fitted with a solar lighting system that provides a satisfactory lighting level adjacent to the site offices during the autumn and winter period. |
WIND TURBINE The site office accommodation is at a high level above the site works and a wind turbine has been installed to the uppermost level. The wind turbine provides electric power into the mains supply and supporting our site temporary lighting system around the site hoarding to provide safe access for both the site operatives and the public. Both of these ideas will reduce the mains power consumption at site level and support the site team’s ethos of reducing waste during the construction process. |
