Our People

Carillion is committed to attracting, developing and retaining excellent people. A sustainable business needs qualified people from all backgrounds and circumstances who want to develop their potential and work in line with our values.

We are contracted to the National Employer Service of the Learning & Skills Council and have committed to deliver the Skills Pledge: to improve the basic skills of all employees, by encouraging and supporting the attainment of formal vocational qualifications.

Carillion Training Services helps people into employment by giving them nationally recognised qualifications. The legacy we leave local communities is a sustainable workforce with transferable skills, benefiting economic growth in those areas.

Attracting excellent people

The link between sustainability and recruitment is two-way: as a sustainable business we need to attract and appoint a wide and diverse range of people, and our record on sustainability itself has a positive impact on a candidate’s decision to join Carillion.

Developing excellent people

As a Group we spend £21m a year on training and development. Through the Carillion Academy, we offer a wealth of opportunities for people to reach their full potential. We have around 2,200 people on formal courses every month, plus a further 2,000 people on Carillion development programmes. Examples of what we offer to develop our people are as follows:

Retaining excellent people

As a sustainable business, we are committed to retaining people by rewarding, motivating and engaging with them. This includes listening to what people have to say and acting on it. Examples of some of the tools and initiatives in place to engage with our people are:

Sustainable Communities
Natural Resource Protection
Climate Change and Energy
Sustainable Consumption and Production
