Equality and Diversity

Equality

At Carillion we operate and make every effort to ensure that a working environment exists where all employees are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect irrespective of gender, race, colour or sexual orientation.

All efforts are geared to eliminating all bias and unlawful discrimination in relation to job applicants, employees, our business partners and members of the public. This objective is achieved by undertaking continuous training throughout the group to raise awareness and explain to our people what standards of behaviour Carillion expects

Diversity

We make every effort to provide a working environment where all employees are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect irrespective of gender, race, colour or sexual orientation.

We have development programmes in place for our people; every new Carillion employee has an element of their induction devoted to understanding what behaviour Carillion expects from its people and the need to be mindful of varying beliefs and cultures. Further development modules are available for Supervisors and Managers covered as part of the personal development review process which takes place for all our people twice a year. Individual business units run their own mentoring schemes and secondments in addition to supporting local initiatives such as sponsoring schools and providing assistance to community groups.

All managers actively involved in the recruitment process attend an accredited interviewer’s programme which covers the relevant legal principles.

During 2009 and 2010, Carillion rolled out an e-learning module on diversity and equality. Everyone who manages or supervises people in Carillion was expected to take the training and cascade what they had learnt to their teams.
