Resource Use
If we are to understand the full impact on the world’s natural resources, we need to measure and monitor the raw materials, consumables and commodities that we use.
We are currently working to identify the main products used across all our sites and contracts and to understand the full life cycle impacts of those products and materials on the environment. This will inform our strategy to manage resource use.
In 2007 our businesses identified their top ten products procured and are progressively using a resource use model, which highlights the social, economical and environmental impacts of that product.
Key achievements in 2007:
- |
Top ten high volume / high impact products identified by our business |
- |
Every Carillion business has completed a risk and value analysis and has identified the main products that will require sustainable development in 2008 |
World Wildlife Fund, Forest Trade Network
Carillion is also committed to the responsible procurement of forest products. Our long-term intention is to source all forest products that we procure direct (or our sub-contractors procure on our behalf) from well-managed forests, which have been certified to credible certification standards.
We report our timber volumes and sources to the WWF on an annual basis and source Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber, where ever possible.
We also have a Responsible Timber Procurement Policy and we have been a member of the WWF-UK Forest and Trade Network for over ten years.
