2008 Targets

We continue to report on the four areas of the Governments strategy for sustainable development and strive to deliver our targets. This will be delivered through a series of UK business group targets that will support the group targets as detailed below.

Our 2008 sustainability targets are currently being verified by Bureau Veritas, a full report of our target performance will be published in April 2009.

In order to assess our achievement of these targets an independent consultancy has audited and verified our targets and the findings are presented in the table above.

Independent Assurance statement

Bureau Veritas is an independent professional services company specialising in quality, health, safety, social and environmental management advice and compliance. We have a long history (over 170 years) of providing independent assurance services to companies in a range of sectors.

Bureau Veritas has a code of ethics intended to ensure that all our staff maintain high standards in their business conduct and to prevent conflicts of interest.

The preparation and content of this Sustainability Report is the sole responsibility of Carillion. Bureau Veritas’ responsibility is to provide assurance over the reliability of the information therein, with specific attention to the achievement of targets.

The audit was undertaken by reviewing evidence submitted by the Carillion businesses to enable the auditor to determine the level of achievement of each target in each business. The individual business scores were then used to determine the overall plc score.

The audits were undertaken by the following means:

  • interviews with key personnel
  • review of evidence
  • sample auditing of raw data and evidence
  • inspection of records
  • interrogation of spreadsheets.

It is Bureau Veritas’ opinion that the achievement and scores for the targets allocated above are an accurate reflection of the achievement of Carillion plc against each of the targets.

Bureau Veritas also undertook a review of the content of this report, which involved challenging and substantiating the material presented in the report. Bureau Veritas can confirm that:

  • the content of the report reflects the activities and achievements of the Group, and provides a fair summary of status and performance over the reporting period
  • the factual information provided can be considered to be accurate and reliable, and reported in a clear and understandable manner.
