
We produce an annual sustainability report to demonstrate our commitment to, and progress towards, becoming a more environmentally and socially responsible business and the benefits this has for all our stakeholders and the wider world. It is written primarily for our existing and prospective employees, customers, shareholders, investors, industry and organisations that promote sustainability. We hope you will find it helpful and interesting.
Unless otherwise stated, figures in this report relate to the calendar year 2009 and cover all our operations, including our overseas businesses except where these are expressly excluded. The inclusion of the activities we undertake in Joint Ventures with other companies is decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size of our shareholding in the Joint Venture and our level of influence on its operations. Where Carillion employees are seconded to Joint Ventures in which we are a minority shareholder, the seconded employees are included in our data, but the Joint Venture’s operations are not. We continue to improve our internal reporting systems with the aim of improving the quality of the information included in our sustainability reports. We produce this report annually and our previous sustainability report, which was published in April 2009 and covered our 2008 performance, is also available on our website www.carillionplc.com/sustainability.
