Carillion was launched as an independent listed company in July 1999, following the demerger from Tarmac plc. In 1999, we were predominantly a UK construction company, but our business has transformed over our first decade.
Implementing our consistent and successful strategy has transformed our business and today, we are a leading support services company, with a substantial portfolio of Public Private Partnership projects and extensive construction capabilities.
We operate in the UK, the Middle East and North Africa, and in Canada and the Caribbean. Our head office is in Wolverhampton, UK. Despite challenging market conditions, our business performance remained strong in 2009, with total revenue growing by 4% to £5.4 billion, underlying profit before tax by 16% to £182.2 million and underlying earnings per share by 14% to 39.0 pence.
Carillion’s mission is to make tomorrow a better place. The services we deliver contribute positively to society, as does the employment we provide for around 50,000 people. Our vision is to be the leading supplier of integrated solutions for buildings, infrastructure and services.
We seek to embed sustainability into all our operations and it is also reflected in our core values. We believe that striving to achieve the highest standards of sustainability has been fundamental to our strategic development and financial success over the last 10 years.
