Outlook
Our sustainability programme in 2006 focused on consolidating the activities, successes, lessons learned and innovations to date. As well as sharing our successes we are continuously looking at new and innovative ways to solve the sustainability issues that we encounter in our every day activities.
What are we doing?
In 2007 Carillion businesses will continue to establish group and business targets. Our top three priorities throughout the year will be:
- |
To measure Carillion’s carbon footprint, establish a baseline and develop a strategy to reduce our carbon emissions. Due to the size and nature of the business this will be undertaken in a number of phases. We will firstly focus on the carbon generated from our fleet, offices and the transportation of our staff. The second phase will be to consider the impacts from our construction, design and services activities. |
- |
Improving our position in the Business in the Community’s (BITC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index. Each business unit will have an individual action plan to improve their score in this index. |
- |
To identify the main products, consumables and commodities that we use across our sites and contracts and understand the full life cycle impacts on the environment and develop a strategy to manage this. |
Alongside this we continue to roll out the Power of Engagement for people management, the biodiversity action plans on our contracts, the community action plans, the continuing management of risk and the margin targets we have in place. All this contributes towards the success of our sustainability strategy.
It is vital that the communication of our sustainability agenda is in a language that everyone understands. We will be working hard to create a common understanding of what Carillion is doing about sustainability and what our programme is. This will form part of a corporate branding process for sustainability that everyone will be able to relate to.
Each business unit has set KPI’s that will contribute to our overall improved sustainability performance. These KPI’s have been consolidated into one document:
