Investing in our people

We’re investing in the workforce of the future – creating inclusive workplaces and offering development programmes that bring out people’s potential.

In doing so, we’re helping to build a better business – which helps us meet our customers’ needs more effectively – and a better society, creating lasting value in the communities where we live and work.

Developing the leaders of tomorrow

Tailored training and mentoring, skills development and leadership programmes enable our people to achieve their full potential and provide a better service for our customers.

Our Futures Network attracts participants from across all our businesses in the UK, Middle East and Canada. The Network brings together those keen on stretching themselves outside their regular job role, completing special projects in groups, allowing them to test themselves and helping them to understand where their own key strengths lie

The Carillion Leadership Programme identifies and develops those people with the potential to become Carillion’s future leaders, giving them a chance to excel. It is designed to provide a structured career and learning path, combining various experience, education and relationship based learning activities.

Online learning

Our learning activities are designed to inspire employees to fulfil their potential.

Our e-learning system, ePOD, provides our people with instant access to a wide range of modules include topics on sustainability and health and safety, as well as more specialised topics, such as Building Information Modelling and operational excellence.

Developing skills in the community

Empowering people through skills and employability, especially those who are marginalised, has always been a priority for us. Our work starts in schools and continues through the workplace to retirement, building bridges between the community and workplace.

We’re leading the way as one of BITC’s lead national supporters of Ready for Work – supporting ex-offenders, the long-term unemployed, the homeless and ex-service personnel, back into work.

In addition, we’re proud to offer our people an industry leading 6 days’ paid volunteering leave per year.

Our leadership in creating employment skills and opportunities, coupled with our understanding of the needs of our communities, ensures we make a positive contribution everywhere we work.

Nurturing the next generation of talent

By creating opportunities for a skilled workforce, we ensure that we have home-grown talent and help young people realise their aspirations.

We champion schemes that unlock the talent of young people through targeted training and paid work, and we continue to be the largest trainer and employer of construction apprentices in the UK.
