A Royal emblem, which adorned the outside of Milburngate House in Durham City for nearly 50 years, has been recovered by the Carillion team working on the demolition of the site and presented to the building’s former tenant, Her Majesty’s Passport Office and will now be displayed at their new offices at Freemans Reach in the city.

The metre-high aluminium emblem, which was added to the Milburngate House to mark its completion in 1968, was rescued by Carillion who restored it before handing it back to HM Passport Office.

Carillion completed construction of the Freemans Reach building last year.
