Building Construction

We have a proven track record in complex construction projects around the world.

We take a whole-life-cycle approach to building construction. This means we can finance, design and construct buildings – and maintain them over their lifetime. It’s a fully integrated service that gives our clients the best overall value.

Battersea Power Station Phase 1 is a mixed-use development comprising 866 apartments.

Working collaboratively with clients, we provide high quality construction services across a wide range of sectors such as AviationDefence, Education, Healthcare, Residential, Leisure, Corporate, Commercial and Local Government.

With our strong supporting capabilities in engineering and architectural design, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and project management, we can offer true integrated solutions.

We have dedicated teams of technical experts, project managers, commercial and financing professionals. Supported by the best available technology, they have the expertise and experience to handle some of the world’s the most challenging building projects.

Iconic construction projects across the globe

In the UK, we are proud to have created many iconic structures and buildings. Recent projects include the £400m Battersea Power Station Phase 1 redevelopment, the £335m Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the Library of Birmingham and the Anfield Stadium Expansion.

In Canada, we are proud to be working on some of Canada’s most prestigious projects, such as the Aga Khan Museum and Ismaili Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum’s Michael Lee Chin Crystal, and the $450 million revitalisation of Toronto’s Union Station. We are also delivering large-scale healthcare projects to LEED Gold standards.

The New York University project in Abu Dhabi involved the construction of a complete university campus in excess of 300,000m2.

Across the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region, we have built strong relationships with our partners, some spanning more than 50 years. Our major projects include the Al Muneera development and New York University campus in Abu Dhabi, the Dubai Festival City development, The Royal Opera House in Oman, a major phase of the Msheireb Downtown Doha project in Qatar and the Cairo Festival City development in Egypt.

Sustainable construction

Our construction capability ties in closely with our sector-leading sustainability credentials.

As part of our commitment to creating 5,000 apprenticeships over the next five years, we will offer apprenticeship interviews to all young people who graduate from the National Citizen Service

We are the largest apprentice trainer and employer in our sector, and in 2014 we committed to creating more than 5,000 apprenticeships by 2019. At any one time, we have around 2,000 students in training across our 13 centres in the UK.

“We are proud to be putting in place plans that will benefit the UK economy for decades to come and to be giving today’s young people the opportunity of some exciting careers.”

Ray Wilson, Carillion director of training services

When it comes to Health & Safety, our target is zero. Zero accidents, zero incidents. We do everything we can to remove the risk of accidents from our business.

We are certified to the BS OHSAS 18001 standard for health and safety management systems across our operations in the UK, the Middle East and North Africa. Meanwhile, every contract is assessed for health and safety risks, from design and delivery to final use. Senior managers regularly visit contracts to review health and safety.

We believe that thriving communities help to boost economic prosperity and contribute positively to society. We are at the heart of many local communities where we live and work. We are committed to improving quality of life and providing much-needed employment and training, not just within construction, but across all areas of our business.
