Sustainable supply chain

With an international supplier spend of around £3 billion, we believe our supply chain partners can help us make a tangible positive impact on sustainability.

Working with our suppliers is core to our success – which is demonstrated in the collaborative stories in our Annual Sustainability Report.

Our Sustainable Supplier Charter ensures our commitment to sustainable procurement. We apply the principles of the UK Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply’s (CIPS) Policy on Purchasing Ethics, and those of the Canadian Institute for Supply Management (CISM).

We put our efforts into building relationships with businesses that share our Values.

Sustainable procurement

Carillion is fully committed to sustainable procurement and the fundamental importance of ethical sourcing. We have a zero tolerance of modern slavery in all its forms in our own business and in our supply chain.

Supply Chain Sustainability School

We are a funding partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School – the award-winning collaboration initiative designed to offer free skills, training and action plans to suppliers across the full built environment.

“We are proud to be part of an initiative that shares best practice, with the common goal of delivering sustainable solutions for our customers and partners.”

David Picton, Chief Sustainability Officer, Carillion

The School is an online virtual learning facility, and it is one of the most successful sustainability education initiatives in the history of the built environment.

David Picton, our CSO, has been a member of the Leadership Council since 2013 and was elected to the new Leadership Board in March 2015. The School continues to make exceptional progress in upskilling supply chain companies and people.

Local sourcing and supporting SMEs

To generate local employment, boost local economies and help us to engage with the communities in which we work, we’ve set tough targets to work with local suppliers as part of our 2020 Sustainability Strategy.

Our Small Business Charter was launched in 2014. It helps our 5,000 accredited SME business suppliers to support the UK economy and shows what they can expect when working with us, including access to our Early Payment Facility.
